Wood, acrylic or paper? The material shapes the impression

The topper is the first detail people notice on a cake – and often the only one that outlives the celebration. That's why it pays to choose the material by the mark you want it to leave.

A wooden cake topper has one practical edge over printed ones: the lettering is burned straight into the material, so it never rubs off or washes away.

Which names and motifs engrave best

A laser can handle almost anything, yet some briefs look markedly better after engraving than others:

• Names with diacritics – Žofia, Ľuboš or Šarlota are no problem. What matters is the font, one where accents and long marks stay legible even from across the room.
• Script fonts – a classic on wedding toppers. Their fine strokes do need enough size, though, or they get lost when cut.
• Numbers and dates – the guest of honour's age or a wedding date work beautifully as the focal point of the design.
• Clean-line motifs – hearts, floral wreaths, little animals, the silhouette of the birthday person's hobby. Photographs and soft shading, on the other hand, we don't recommend; engraving loves vector graphics, not raster.

What size suits your cake

A rule of thumb proven in the workshop: the topper's width should be roughly two-thirds of the cake's diameter. In numbers:

• a cake 16–18 cm in diameter → a topper 10–12 cm wide
• a cake 20–24 cm → a topper 13–16 cm
• a tiered cake → size it to the top tier the topper stands on

The length of the stick matters too – it has to be long enough for the topper to stand firmly even in a taller cake. So when you order, tell us the diameter and type of cake; we'll size the design so the lettering neither disappears nor overshadows the rest of the decoration.

4. Production and delivery. We make everything in our own workshop in Rimavská Sobota and deliver across the whole EU. On orders over €150 excl. VAT, shipping is free.
