Description
Character and tasting
A Tokaji Aszú of grand stature from the outstanding 2013 vintage, awarded a Decanter Silver medal with 94 points — among further awards. Deep gold in the glass, it opens with serious botrytis and aged aromatics: acacia and linden honey layered with dried apricot, lemon marmalade and propolis, followed by pineapple, clove spice, caramel and toasted walnut.
The palate is concentrated and wide-spectrum: apricot preserve, date, walnut cake and dried fruits layered on one another, while structure and focus hold throughout. Its 121 g/l of residual sugar stands in exceptional balance with 7.6 g/l of acidity — well-proportioned and energetic, with a silky, oily, finely polished texture and an endlessly long, slowly opening finish. After more than a decade of ageing it is still far from its peak, with potential for two more decades in the cellar.
At the table
Made for orange walnut torte and honeyed creams, it also rewards salty pairings: a foie-gras mousse macaron, or blue cheese for an exciting contrast.
